Kids today!

This is not going to be the rant you were expecting about kid's today and how ill mannered they are blah blah blah. I'm not quite that much of a fuddy duddy just yet. I'm only 22 (even if my back feels about 80 right now...).

My only comment about kids today is:

WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY FEEDING THEM?

Because when I was 15, age 15 children's clothes fitted me. OK trousers were usually too long, but that's because my legs are disproportionately tiny. Everything else was fine.

And now?

I'm wearing an entire outfit of kid's clothes and the average age is? 12. That's right TWELVE. I tried this dress on in age 14+ and it was rather too large in the chest area... =[

Still I shouldn't complain; no VAT on kid's clothes so they are really cheap!

What I'm wearing:
Spotty black dress: H&M for 9.99 (available here)
Bat leggings: New Look for 5.99 (available here)
Belt: White ribbon from my sewing box.

  1. It happened to me too, in H&M XD not only children's clothing fitted me, but age 14+ was too large on me. I'm quite short but not skinny, they probably grow super fast XD

    1. I'm glad it's not just me! hehe! I'm not really all that 'skinny' any more either - my BMI is in the middle of the normal range somewhere. Yup, they must grow very fast! I remember doing work experience age 16 and all of the 10-11 year old's being taller than me so I expect that's why! They are a giant generation =P

  2. They make some nice kids clothes. I was bemoaning that some lovely little girls dress with tulle was only in kids sizes, it was the nicest dress in the whole catalogue! I like being able to hopefully just squeeze into a large kid's size. I am a fairly average size now, maybe a little on the short side. When I was 12/13 I was tiny.

I heard that all the hormones they put in food these days make kids develop faster, they even have earlier puberty. How terrifying!

    1. I hope you can fit into the lovely tulle dress! I think a lot of people have a growth spurt in their late teens, so I would have expected 12 year olds to be small too. I'd always assumed I was the exception (I was the same height when I was 11 as I am now- I just got curvy bits during my teens =P).

Yeah, hormones in food is scary. I'm often glad that I don't eat meat because I know that's especially bad for hormones!

  3. Children tends to get taller than their parents. My son has started to buy adult clothes and my step daughter who is 10 is also doing her bargains on the woman department. I guess it's something with the food. Kids today eat far more sugar than their parents did. I can only compare my weekly candy bag to the bags that sells today :P. The leggings are really nice!

    1. Yes you are right, I'm taller than my mum (who never quite made 5 ft tall =P).

I think between you and Laura you've covered it; the hormones + all the sugar = giant kids! I wasn't allowed to east sweets at all when I was a kid- maybe I can tell my mum she stunted my growth =P

  4. I buy and wear boys T-shirts all the time; my six-year-old son and I have several matching outfits!

    1. Aww that sounds adorable! I would like to see a picture! I used to have matching outfits with my mum sometimes; which looked hilarious because I looked like a mini version of her!
I think I'm going to have to investigate the boy's section of clothing stores now too, after my discovery that men's shirts have cool designs, maybe I'll find some I can wear without altering them!
